SALVAGE: -FOR SEVERELY INJURED ANIMALS

HEALTH EVALUATION
  • EYES

    • Fire typically burns the corneas of the eye making it difficult or impossible to see. Mild cases may take days to become more severe.

  • FEET

    • Hooves are easily burned. The first symptom of damaged feet are tenderness at a walk.

    • More severe cases will have separation of the hoof/hairline wall

  • TEATS - NURSING COWS

    • Teats are highly vulnerable to 3rd degree burns. If the teat end becomes damaged or the teat is reddened with peeling skin, the damage is severe and will be too painful to allow a calf to nurse.

Unfortunately, if any or all of the injuries listed above are severe then treatment is futile. Salvage or humane euthanasia is indicated. Please do not hesitate to call us with any questions over health assessments on affected animals.
